Career in Medical Information Technology

Description: Medical Information Technology This is one of the fastest growing occupations. New technology is available that can greatly increase the efficiency and efficacy of the healthcare system. As the information in the medical field increases, so too will the need for medical information technology professionals.

Role: Medical information technology professionals are involved in numerous areas of the medical industry, from healthcare providers to insurers. Medical or health information technicians assemble patient information and use software to record the diagnosis. Technicians often work for health information administrators who design and manage the systems. Interaction with patients is not a large component of this job.

Training:An associate degree is often sufficient for entry into this career field of medical information technology. There is also a written exam (RHIT) for medical information technicians that many employers require. To advance into an administrator or management role, a bachelor's degree is usually required in the field of medical information technology.
